The Revival of James Dean

The cultural icon, James Dean, took the world by storm in the 1950’s and has since become the benchmark for popular culture globally. However, the rebel without a cause has been successfully followed by lookalike, James Franco, to rival Dean’s legacy. Franco was cast as the title role in a biography of James Dean and was distinguished with a Golden Globe for this raw performance. Since this success in 2000, Franco has only been known as the actor who auditioned for Spiderman, but ended up with the role of Peter Parker’s friend, Harry Osborn. It is only in more recent years that the New Goblin, James Franco, has become a global heart-throb and his career has sky-rocketed to new levels.

The actor was chosen as the new face of Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme to complete the image of the “Gucci Man”. This is the first male fragrance entirely designed by Gucci creative director, Frida Giannini, which has been a world success. Giannini insisted the scent be “fresh and modern, with a touch of citrus, to link it back to the women’s scent”. Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme mixes elemi (similar to incense) with tobacco, which intrigued the creative director as “it turns up the intensity of the perfume”.

The launch of Gucci’s TV and print media campaigns gave Franco a new standing. Both were shot in black and white, in a London studio.

Franco is the essence of the Gucci vision.

To keep an eye on the new hot-shot, Franco will be starring in the films “Date Night” and “Your Highness” in 2010 and an A.B.C soap opera in just 10 days! Airing in the USA, Franco plays a mystery man who comes to Port Charles and will remain on the show for two months.

James Franco will have the legacy of James Dean, iconic status is knocking on the door.
