I know the perfume world seems like a whirlwind of intoxicating scents, let me do the walking, trying and sniffing for you. I’ve selected a few of my favourites for her so you can get it right next Valentine’s Day/Anniversary or Birthday.

VIKTOR & ROLF EAU MEGA

If you liked ‘Flowerbomb’ you will love love love this. The ooohh la la reaction you were after? This will be just right for her. The Amsterdam based fashion house has released this fine fragrance to reveal the feminine elegance in every woman. The fresh and seductive ultra-faceted floral scent is characterised by green notes of violet leaf, green basil and pear with a sprinkling of feminine petals, peony and sambac jasmine.

Complimented by the golden bottle, every woman will love the elegant zest of lemon and invigorating aquatic breeze. The fresh spray will be her cold morning shower in half the time! The base releases a sensual and refined nature to keep your curiosity high as it leaves a sleek and ultra woody wake.

VERY HOLYLWOOD by Michael Kors

My signature scent and all time favourite Michael Kors by Michael Kors. The new and updated version Very Hollywood is just as intoxicating, if not more. How to get compliments? Wear Michael Kors and I’m not just saying that! Most young women seem to love the scent. The juice begins with top notes of mandarin and bergamot, has a heart of jasmine, ylang ylang and raspberry, and dries down to a creamy amber, white moss and vetiver.

ROSE THE ONE by Dolce & Gabbana

How about the more mature you? Or perhaps your wonderful wife? Dolce & Gabbana somehow know how to capture elegance and sophistication into one bottle of sweet sm

elling chemicals. This tribute to female beauty signals contemporary elegance embodied by a woman with an instinctively classic sense of style. Her essence is a soft, rosy floral designed around a bouquet that evokes precious, delicate sensuality. For Him:

Ladies how do we ever find something for him? Birthdays and Christmas are hard enough. Now we have to find something sentimental? Anniversary/Valentines Day = impossible! Tools, clothes, ties, books, stationary….no way, no sentiment. What to do? This seems to be my dilemma far too often! Fathers, brothers, boyfriends, husbands so many men!

Cologne…perfect solution. No man can ever choose for themselves. You’re the one who has to put up with the smell so you should definitely be in the hot-seat.

Where to go from here? You can’t exactly try male fragrances on your own skin…slight issue.

ONLY THE BRAVE by Diesel

I personally think Diesel is always a safe bet when it comes to presents. Do you like your man smelling exotic with leather and woody accords with a little oriental overtone? This is traditionally a very masculine scent which highlights the concept behind “only the brave”. The modern notes of leather are closely related to the brand itself and speak only words of refined charm. The composition is refreshed with lemon and sparkling, fresh aromas, adding amber and woody accords of cedar to the base notes. Only The Brave is a brand new fragrance released in 2009 and just the thing he might be looking for this Valentines Day.

CK FREE by Calvin Klein

A little unsure which top or base notes your man is into? This would be the majority of people I’d say (me included). So I feel classics are always a winner! Calvin Klein, fantastic established brand in the fragrance industry. In particular CK Free is a modern, masculine woody aromatic fragrance for men, a very safe bet. The popular CK line created by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux never fails to woo a man here or there. Top notes incorporate absynth, jackfruit, star annis and juniper berries. The heart is a union of suede, coffee, tobacco leaf and bunch (agathosma betulina) and base notes  include redolent of oak, patchouli, cedar and ironwood.

Our smell memory is more sensitive than any visual or taste memory.
