New York Fashion Week sponsored by Mercedes Benz ran from Feb 10 – Feb 17 in Lincoln Park, Manhatten. The seven days of high-end fashion may be over, but the excitement has only just begun – the Williamsburg Fashion Weekend also attracts a crowd. Williamsburg showcases a collection of clothes from young, up and coming designers and artists from all over the States. Mainly east coast talent seems to be scouted, but it is a breeding pool for designers to get their designs noticed.

There is a great vibe in NYC this month with celebrities from all over the world flying in for the events including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kate Bosworth, Julia Stiles, Fergie and Sophia Bush. The ladies were seen at a number of shows including Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Son Jung Wan and Ivana Helskini.
It appears the majority of collections for the Fall revolve around neutral blends and tame colour palettes. This began on day one with Nicholas K, who blended urban and military looks with puffy jackets, khaki galore, hoods, quaint scarves and layers upon layers of unbiased shades.
Similar tones of grey and cream could be detected in Michael Kors’ collection. Kors began his career in 1981 and celebrated his 30 years with his runway show in NY. Kors accessorized his classic silhouettes with high skirt stilts, draping dresses and deep necklines.
The one highlight of Fashion Week appears to be Betsey Johnson’s show, who really knows how to make an impression. Blasting “Kiss” by Prince, the designer sent both agency models and females off the street down the runway to don her signature bold colours and wild patterns. Johnson has been working in the industry for over 40 years and showcased more than 70 looks at this year’s Fashion Week.
Below are a couple of photos from the Nicholas K collection.
