Nautical – Always Fresh

The powers of blue and white stripes… Don’t underestimate them.

Think an aging seaside shack, add a rowboat, a white bikini and a significant other and you have a perfect castaway existence. In terms of fashion, the classic nautical blue and white seems to continually flow in and out, never jumping overboard.

A cheeky bit of rope worn as a necklace, or straw beach bag is the usual ticket for a touch of sailor-chic. Dior last season went all out with their sailor hats on the runway, a little too far, as many critics subsequently commented. Off the catwalk, nautical meets belle epoque style in many living rooms, outdoor entertaining areas, kitchens and bedrooms. The windworn interiors look just right with a downhome bench and ladder shelves, with white wooden paneling proving perfect for a seaside balcony.
