Fashion and The Economy: Reality or Placebo?

Fashion and The Economy: Reality or Placebo?

We have heard it time and time again – our economy is suffering, consumer spending is down, blah blah blah… Now, I may not be on the big bucks (yet) and I may not adequately understand the economy (yet), but I have observed a fair few changes, which have impacted our fashion and beauty industries.

To make an investment, you need to make a calculated “smart buy.” You can justify the purchase of that Chanel quilted bag you’ve been lusting over for years, if and only if you divide the purchase price by the average number of uses per year. That usually makes a quaint little amount, much more appealing to the wallet. An investment. A smart buy.

We should note, consumer spending fluctuates depending on an individual and their financial situation. Consequently, a lady’s garment choice, general maintenance and appearance tends to fluctuate in waves, i.e. coinciding with the ability to invest in one’s look.

Do we actually look better as a result of spending or is all in our head? Is it all a placebo?
Either way, the age-old idea of retail therapy seems to work as a mood booster.
Happy shopping!
