At the Rodin Museum in Paris, Christian Dior sets his scene. The Haute Couture Spring 2011 show dwells on the unique heritage, techniques and craftsmanship of Dior with its unique Parisian charm.

The muse for the collection was fashion illustrator René Gruau. Gruau and Dior have had a long creative collaboration and friendship, which began when Gruau created a drawing of a swan for a Miss Dior ad campaign. Gruau’s economic style – using blocks of light colours against simple black lines – defined the modernity of Mr Dior’s audacious couture vision.
A small step forward is a big step forward in couture and by any standards this show was an out-of-proportioned leap!

We witnessed a white fur coat with a splash of camel paint, a dark navy embroided jacket paired with a red silk skirt, a stunning red dress which gradually changed to dark wine and single block coloured puff sleeve jackets. Each piece was an individual colour palette, mixing the paints without predicting the outcome with an expectation of clashes and quarrels between strong and weak colours. The end result was the haute couture masterpiece known as Christian Dior.
