1947 Miss Dior

After causing a storm in the world of fashion in the post-war period, Mr Dior turned his talents to fragrance. Enter the bold jasmine and gardenia scented, Miss Dior Parfum after the “New Look” collection.

Miss Dior was created by Jean Carles and Paul Cacher in 1947 under the direction of Dior’s childhood friend Serge Heftler-Louiche. The scent combines top notes of gardenia, galbanum, clary sage and bergamot; middle notes of carnation, orris root, jasmine, neroli, lily-of-the-valley, rose, narcissus and base notes of leather, labdanum, sandalwood, amber, patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver. Miss Dior by Dior is a chypre floral fragrance for women that is said to “capture the timeless couture spirit of Dior.”

The luxury read-to-wear fashion house was reinvented with the introduction of Christian Dior Parfums. The designer himself only owned 25% of his perfume business, while manager of Coty perfumes held 35% and Boussac owned 40% of CDP.

It has been thought that Paris had fallen from its position as the capital of the fashion world after WWII, but rapidly regained its esteemed position due in part to the attention it gained from Dior’s New Look and Perfume Range. The New Look line alone made a profit of 12.7million French Francs.

Miss Dior Cherie is the modern version of the 1947 classic, which captures the audacity of youth with its playful notes – the fresh approach to a timeless classic.
